Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Before reading the books talk about the word “cranky”. What does it mean to be cranky? What makes you cranky? Then show them the Anatomy of a Crankenstein on the front cover of the book.

As you read the story talk about times they may have been cranky, or if these scenarios would make them crazy, too?

After the books, tell them that Crankenstein is also cranky on Valentine’s Day. Let’s hope the students are cranky on Valentine’s Day! Listen and watch the story of A Crakenstein Valentine.

Remind the students that Valentine’s Day is about loving those around us and showing our love to others. Teach the students the word “Skid-a-ma-rink” and sing the following song!

If time allows, sing the HEART song, too!

Crockett – Feb. 7 & 14

Before reading the story discuss the parts of the book (cover, back cover, spine, title, author, illustrator). Have the students look at the front cover, describing what’s on the cover and predicting what they think the story is about. Then, read the story asking questions about “what do they think will happen next?”, as you read.

Enjoy this fun, subtracting, gingerbread man song! Have the students show with their fingers how many gingerbread men are left and remind them that they are taking away or subtracting.

The students will now enjoy a different version of the Gingerbread Man. After the video have the students compare/contract, or tell how the stories for the same or different, from each other.
